The 3 Seasons of Gratitude

I want to begin by saying that every universal principle among other things has time of its application or season of operation. And Gratitude being a universal principle is not excluded.

What I want to say simply is that Gratitude as powerful and important as it is has a time or season to be communicated. Just as the scripture has told us in Ecclesiastes 3: 1 that there is time and season for everything under the sun showing of Gratitude inclusive.

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:"

Remember, the value of Gratitude is determined by time. When gratitude does not come when expected it becomes ingratitude. I'm sure you've heard somebody in time past said "That fellow has not called to appreciate; may be what I did for him or her was not much or up to expectation?"

This kind of statement can only come when appreciation or gratitude has delayed. Moreover, the moment such a statement is made over the attitude of any individual towards a kind gesture showed to him or her, ingratitude has set in.

Anyone that makes the above quoted statement is feeling not appreciated. Check it even if the appreciation should come after such a statement it will no longer be valued. It has become 'Partial gratitude' and Partial gratitude is Ingratitude.

Somebody is asking, "Author, what are you saying?" Reader, what I am saying is simple that Gratitude should be showed timely by the beneficiaries!

THE THREE (3) SEASONS OF GRATITUDE

I have classified the seasons of Gratitude into three:

1. The Past
I called this Gratitude in Retrospection. A good gesture or kindness you have received or enjoyed from somebody in the past is enough reason to say thank you to the benefactor. That past kindness is a season to show gratitude in Retrospection.

2. The Present
I called this Gratitude in Manifestation. What stops you from appreciating immediately a gesture or kindness that somebody is presently extending to you? Except for pride and personal wickedness. When you are ungrateful you are wicked.

Every present kindness or gesture received by a beneficiary creates a season for gratitude. That is gratitude in manifestation. Remember, time is strategic to gratitude.

3. The Future
I called this Gratitude in Expectation. The fact remains that certain kindness or gesture comes in the form of promise of something for the future. For instance, you are seeking for employment and somebody has taken your credentials and promised to help you get a job.

That kindness or gesture is to take place at a future date. This promise to help get a job has created a season for appreciation, and that is gratitude in Expectation.

After all, you are not the only one looking for job, apartment, recommendation, admission, promotion, contract or whatever.

Based on this, when God or man has promised to help you, he or she deserves your appreciation in expectation of the promise made. Somebody wants to ask "What if the promise is not fulfilled?"

Listen, you are not appreciating him or her because he has fulfilled the promise get it right; for the fact that he or she has made a promise is enough. Therefore, you are thanking him or her for the good promise that was made.

By the time he or she fulfills it, you start thanking him or her again for the Past - the job you've gotten, and for the Present - the job you are doing!

These are the three (3) seasons of Gratitude: The Past, Present and Future. That is to say at any given time in your life there is always a season and a reason to say Thank you to God, men and women of goodwill, organizations, families, friends, neighbors, colleagues, mentors, parents, bosses, leaders, and so on.

Hope you have been blessed by this post.
